Suicide Bereaved Network
Annual General Meeting 2019: “Identity: who do we think we are now?”
Manchester, 2nd November

Following on from our second AGM in September 2018, this year’s AGM returns to the Friends’ Meeting House in Manchester, on Saturday, 2nd November.  Our theme for 2019 is Identity: who do we think we are now? We aim to answer the question how does the experience of suicide bereavement change us? How does it affect our self-image, our roles, our relationships, our place within our communities? How do we move forward to fully embrace our new identity as suicide bereaved? How do we balance our deep sense of loss with the positive aspects of our lives?

Speaking of identity,  we think now is the time for us to develop a new logo and image to represent Suicide Bereaved Network.  We hope that as many of you as possible will share your thoughts and ideas on this project, so that our image will be truly representative of those who have experienced this particularly devastating loss.  What type of image do you think would best represent what we stand for? Would you choose a beautiful image such as a flower or butterfly, or an image of togetherness and sharing, or maybe something more abstract? Which qualities do you associate with our experience: strength, hopefulness, courage? Which colour do you think best reflects our organisation, a soothing blue, a hopeful green or maybe a passionate red? If you would like to get involved please consider joining our membership and follow us on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook so that you can have your say.

We are delighted to welcome John Brown, of the new charity Suicide Bereavement Support, which provides support in Cumbria and surrounding areas. John will share his and his team’s experience of setting up and running the SOBS Cumbria support group for many years, before launching the new charity earlier this year.

We are pleased to also welcome Surinder Rall, Postvention Practitioner with Leeds Suicide Bereavement Service (LSBS) which is funded by Leeds Council and run by Leeds Mind and Leeds Survivor Led Crisis Service with support from Leeds Bereavement Forum. LSBS aims to provide responsive, timely and compassionate support for people bereaved by suicide.

There will also be the usual business of the AGM, including the Chair’s and Treasurer’s reports, and the opportunity for members to vote in our new Trustees.

The event is free and includes lunch and refreshments, but places are limited so please don’t delay if you’d like to attend. The programme and booking form can be downloaded from the links below. You can apply by email or post, or by using our online booking form.
